From the unique area of Lake Plastira in Karditsa, Emmelia’s Oak Chestnut Honey is produced. The combination of oak and chestnut produces an excellent mixture of flavors from our bees. It is characterized by a particularly intense aromatic taste and a slightly bitter aftertaste. It has a beautiful blend of strong and less sweet flavors, it is spicy, it has a light licorice taste and the tannin content in its rich aftertaste is clearly distinguishable.
Its color is dark brown, almost black and crystallizes slowly (in more than 12 months). The darker its color, the greater its aromatic taste.
Oak honey contains potassium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus and sodium. A study by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki found that it has the strongest antioxidant activity compared to other honeys. In fact, it is worth noting that it surpassed Manuka Honey (honey produced in New Zealand and strongly advertised for its healing properties).
Chestnut honey is rich in pollen, minerals and tannin. Contains trace elements and iron. It has a high ratio of fructose that resists crystallization and relatively low acidity.
